At four score and six it’s Cash or Trash time for a lifetime collection of buy-sell-trade premium treasures. Here we have:A really rarely seen 6 inch, 154.0 mm f6.3 Bausch and Lomb Metrogon lens AND CONE assembly in an original precision machined aluminum cone ending in a nominal 9 X 9 inch format flat surface face. Inside of cone has cast-in black baffles. (Please study photos as you read along. No bouncing white ball.) Both lenses are securely mounted and properly spaced. Now… listen up… big pro is the machined access port that accesses the lens spacing chamber (no cover, just tape right now). THIS will allow user to easily clean the inside surfaces, for one. The best advantage, as probably intended, is the ability to insert a filter! –infrared, UV or all those exotic astrophotography filters! Eye-balling with a ruler from outside, I estimate a 3/16″ space Perhaps insert an iris diaphragm or a flat shutter (no, Ansel’s white hat won’t fit in there!). Lens glass is clear, coated, without scratches or fungi that I can see. Perhaps has a dustie or two that flew in through that 37″ X .85″ side port. Weighs in at 7 lbs. 4.5 oz. nekkid as shown. Adaptation should be much easier, as it has enough mounting holes along the ‘base’ and that beefy extension below the lens (4 holes, 4.75″X .85 CTC and two alignment studs).So, this assembly, unlike complete aerial camera conversions, is unencumbered by interior — and exterior — levers, gears, rods, electrical wiring, roll film chambers and very challenging mating profiles and designs (been there, tried that). Any unnecessary original ‘extra’ items are found on the exterior, like an angled light pipe, sliding clear plastic film i.d. bars — see pics please. If you require any specific dimensions, answers, etc. just let me know. I’m a self-proclaimed practical engineer, and this guy looks like a very doable uncomplicated conversion. I’d do it but Father Time is kickin’ me smartly in the butt.OH! I have a second « cone » listed that ends in a slide-in for standard 8X10 film holders, with a ‘focal length’ of about 17″ or 438 mm. Sheet aluminum pyramid and machined ‘head’ with a threaded lens adapter for a little wiggle room focus tweaking. Swing over and take a look. Add a lens? Pinhole?
