The NEC PC Theater Audio System Amplifier / Equalizer Combo is the perfect addition to your vintage gaming PC setup using authentic, original, period correct hardware. This New Old Stock item is a very rare PC Audio 25 Watt Amplifier and 5 band Equalizer Combo from 1998. Take your retro gaming PC audio experience to the next level by adding this very cool device, which allows you to amplify your soundcard and make very specific adjustments to your PCs audio output. This device supports headphones, as well as two pair of stereo speakers (4) and one subwoofer. Not too much information exists online regarding this amplifier equalizer combo, but I did find a web page add from early 1999, and a photocopy of a simple diagram for installing the hardware. I have also included a custom audio cable with a standard 3.5mm stereo audio plug that goes directly into the line out / speaker out on your soundcard. Features: NEC 25 watt drive bay amplifier NEC 5 band equalizer with slide type controls Equalizer has 4 channels, 6 watts RMS per channel Volume, Fade and Balance controls Built in subwoofer output Controls up to 4 speakers and 1 subwoofer Headphone jack on front panel of Amplifier / Equalizer The control panel is pretty straightforward. There are seven buttons, including Power, Mute, Equalizer Reset, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Plus and Minus. The Left Arrow and Right Arrow buttons scroll through ten options, including Volume, Fade, Balance, Memory 1, Memory 2, and five different options for Bass, Mid and Treble at 100hz, 300hz, 1khz, 3khz and 10khz. The Plus and Minus keys control the output levels for each of the 10 options listed above. There are 12 LEDs on the front panel above each one of the options. This very rare piece of hardware is perfect for a period correct new old stock windows 98 PC build, but with no special drivers, software or hardware limitations, this amplifier / equalizer combo can be used with any pc that has a soundcard, an open 5.25″ drive bay, and one open slot on the back panel for the Amplifier / Equalizer’s rear mounting bracket. I purchased a lot of 7 of these new old stock units years ago and have kept them in a sealed container inside of a temperature controlled storage unit ever since. The only « wear » on the devices seems to be normal oxidation on the RF shielding, which is to be expected after 25 years. There are also numbers written on the RF shield, which look like they are most likely from a quality control inspection. The original OEM kits included a pair of speakers, and from what I understand, the original owner bought a bunch of kits in order to combine matching speakers, and ended up with a bunch of extra unused amplifier / equalizer units. You will be purchasing one of the six wrapped, New Old Stock units in pic #24, with cables included, plus one custom 3.5mm audio cable, as well as a copy of the installation instructions and a copy of the internet sales ad from 1999. The pc in pictures #7-21 is not included. I also have 6 new old stock period correct subwoofers for PCs, and numerous sets of period correct studio monitor speakers if you are looking for a complete period correct 5 speaker package as well.
